Daisuke Matsuzaka
has to put his last two starts behind him if he plans on signing a new contract
after the 2012 season comes to an end.
Matsuzaka has struggled to keep his spot in the Red
Sox starting rotation recently. Matsuzaka left Saturday night's game in the second inning after surrendering five runs to the Toronto Blue Jays. On Sept. 2, he
only managed to pitch into the fourth, allowing six Oakland Athletics to come
across the plate.
Matsuzaka has to capitalize on the next opportunity he gets,
or his future as a pitcher in the big leagues will be in severe doubt. He
is in the final year of a six-year, $52 million deal with the Red Sox that was agreed upon in
2006.
Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy discussed Matsuzaka's recent
performances on NESN Daily after Saturday’s 9-2 loss. Check out the video above
to see what they had to say.
