For Derrick Rose, Chicago is more than simply where he plays basketball. The Windy City is where he was born, where he grew up and where he went to high school, so the Bulls point guard is more concerned about the city's teacher strike than most professional athletes normally would be.
Rose, who attended Simeon Career Academy, a four-year vocational public high school on the South Side of Chicago, gave a neutral and thoughtful answer to a question about the teacher strike. As tweeted by Chris Littman of The Sporting News, Rose said it "hurts" him to see kids out of school in the middle of the day.

The strike has canceled four days of classes for more than 350,000 students, The Associated Press reports, and officials said Thursday that classes will not be held Friday, either. Many parents have been marching with teachers in the country's third-largest school district, where about half of the people support the teachers union, according to a Chicago Sun-Times poll.
