Djibril Cisse is one of European soccer’s true characters, thrilling fans with outstanding goals, hairstyles and outfits.
If the Queens Park Rangers (QPR) and France striker gets his wish, he will end his career in Major League Soccer, Sky Sports reports.
“I don’t feel tired. I’m giving myself three to four more years at the highest level,” Sky Sports reports Cisse told TV Mag.
“I am under contract with QPR until 2013-14. Then I will return to France to fulfil a personal goal, which is selfish, and is to get over the line with 100 goals in Ligue 1. I am at 94 now.
“After this, I would not mind finishing my career in the United States. I’m really attracted to this country.”
Cisse has been a prolific goal scorer during a career that has taken him to seven clubs in four countries. Before landing at QPR last season, he played for Auxerre and Olympique Marseille in France, Liverpool and Sunderland in England, Lazio in Italy and Panathinaikos in Greece.
The 31-year-old suffered broken legs in 2004 and 2006, but those major injuries could not ruin his career. He returned from the first to play for Liverpool at the end of the 2004-05 season, featuring in the Reds’ victory over AC Milan in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final.
Cisse’s has also played 41 games for France, including ill-fated FIFA World Cups in 2002 and 2010.
Based on Cisse’s timetable, the earliest he could play in MLS would be in the 2015 season. He would be at least 34 years old, and it’s unlikely he will have the same speed and power that have made him such an effective player over the years. But it would be unwise to write Cisse off, as he’s proven so many doubters wrong through the years.
