Geno Smith Tears Apart Baylor Defense, Vaults to Top of Heisman Race, 2013 NFL Draft BoardIf you were looking for defense, you didn't find much of it in Morgantown on Saturday.

West Virginia topped Baylor in a shootout on Saturday while being carried by quarterback Geno Smith. The Mountaineers won 70-63 in a record-breaking game that came down to the final minutes.

Smith threw for 656 yards and had more touchdowns than incompletions, going 45 for 51 with eight scores.

Baylor's Terrence Williams set a Big 12 record with 314 yards receiving, beating a mark set earlier in the game by West Virginia's Stedman Bailey. Bailey had 303 yards and five touchdowns.

Baylor's quarterback Nick Florence was impressive in his own right with 581 yards, five touchdowns and one interception, but he couldn't keep up with Smith.

In the end, Baylor's defense couldn't hold West Virginia when they needed to. Baylor scored with three minutes left in the game and chose not to onside kick, instead taking their chances with stopping the Mountaineers. Baylor only forced two punts in the entire game, and West Virginia amounted two first downs in the final drive to kill the clock.

The game was the highest scoring in college football history featuring an AP ranked team.

Smith now has 1,728 yards passing in four games while completing 83.4 percent of his passes — both unheard of statistics at this point in the season. He has 20 touchdowns on the year.

Smith came into the year in the running for the top spot on 2013 NFL draft boards, and should be the consensus favorite after anther performance like Saturday's. He's an athletic QB with a fast release and an unbelievably accurate arm. If he can keep this up all year, there should be no doubt who the 2012 Heisman winner will be.

If you think that Smith can only get it done against weak defenses, you must have missed his performance against LSU when he threw for 463 yards and two scores. Check out the video below to see that performance from 2011.
