Ivan Nova has been known to be a flamethrower.
But apparently, the Yankees pitcher is literally throwing
fire. During Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, Nova fired a 93 mph
fastball that tore right through catcher Russell Martin's glove.
Despite tossing the heat, Nova suffered his eighth loss
of the season after giving up six hits and four runs through 4 2/3 innings of
work. The Blue Jays went on to blank the Yankees 6-0.
Later in the game, however, Nova struck out Moises Sierra
to give the Yankees a franchise record 1,267 strikeouts on the season,
eclipsing the previous record that was set in 2001.
