Jarrod Saltalamacchia Bounces Back From Back Spasms, Plans to Battle Through IssuesBOSTON — Jarrod Saltalamacchia rejoined the Red Sox lineup Wednesday night.

After experiencing back spasms on Sept. 7, the catcher missed the last three games to recover. Although the injury caught Saltalamacchia off guard, he insisted there were no major concerns.

“They didn’t see it regressing at all if I go out there and play,” Saltalamacchia said. “I just got to keep loose, but it feels better. I still feel a little inflammation, stiffness, but the pain was the main thing. That went down and it feels good batting left-handed.

“This is a new [injury]. As a catcher, you’re always going to have knees and lower back, but never to this effect. It’s nothing to be alarmed about, it’s just normal soreness and the West Coast trip didn’t help out.”

Through 106 games this season, Saltalamacchia has displayed his power, unloading 23 home runs and 53 RBIs. The backstop is only three home runs shy of tying Carlton Fisk for the most homers in a season by a Red Sox catcher.
