The Boston Red Sox will go into Saturday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays without catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
The backstop has been a mainstay in the Sox lineup throughout the year, but will miss at least a few games due to back spasms. Saltalamcchia left in the seventh inning of Friday night's loss to the Blue Jays.
Michael Vega of The Boston Globe attributes the rigors of travel to Saltalamacchia's setback, noting the affect a nine game West Coast swing can have on a player. Ryan Lavarnway will get the call behind the plate in Saltalamacchia's absence and can hopefully help the Red Sox even up their series with the Jays.
Hear what Vega had to say about Saltalamacchia's injury and other Sox hot topics.
