Jeff Larish almost completed the cycle, but not the traditional one baseball fans expect.
During the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians' regular-season finale on Sunday, Larish was slotted into eight different positions throughout the game. He started at left field, moved to center, slid over to right, shifted to third base, switched over to shortstop then second base and first, his usual position.
In the seventh inning of the team's 2-0 win, Larish took the mound and issued a walk before notching the final out of the frame. He would've moved to catcher in order to complete the positional cycle, but the game was ultimately called due to rain.
Despite going 0-for-2 with a walk at the plate, the utility man can feel pretty good about the game, since he also received credit for a save on the mound.
Larish last played in the majors in 2010, when he hit two home runs and collected eight RBIs in 24 games for the Athletics. In 101 career games in the big leagues — which included a longer stint with the Tigers — the 29-year-old has homered three times, notched 32 RBIs and batted .224.
These days, he's playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates' minor league affiliate. And he's literally doing it all on the diamond.
