Tyler Seguin is ready to play some hockey, and he's not going to let the NHL lockout disrupt that. The Bruins forward is reportedly packing his bag and heading overseas.
Seguin has signed on with EHC Biel of the Swiss National A League, according to The Fourth Period hockey blog. Ken Campbell of The Hockey News reports that Seguin's agent, Ian Pulver, confirmed that a deal with Biel is all but completed, and that Seguin would join the team soon.
According to Campbell, Pulver wouldn't say exactly why the 20-year-old is heading overseas, but it's not uncommon for NHL players to do such in the event of a work stoppage.
"I'm not going to get into the reasons," Pulver reportedly said. "I can confirm he will play there and leave it at that."
Seguin, who compiled 29-38-67 totals and was named an All-Star in his second NHL season, joins a host of other Canadian-born player to sign overseas, including Logan Couture, Joe Thornton, Jason Demers, Rick Nash, Jason Spezza and teammate Andrew Ference.
Seguin just inked a six-year, $34.5 million contract extension with the Bruins, and he figures to be a key component of Boston's future when the NHL labor dispute is finally resolved.
