Ryan Lavarnway is one of Boston’s top prospects, and there’s a good chance that plenty of memorable moments are on the horizon for the young catcher. But what gives Lavarnway the biggest thrill isn’t hitting a home run and sending the crowd into a frenzy. Instead, it’s working with his pitching staff.
NESN’s Peter Gammons caught up with Lavarnway recently, and the 25-year-old discussed the importance of building relationships with the Red Sox hurlers. Lavarnway said he enjoys when he and his batterymate are on the same page and everything just clicks.
Lavarnway has struggled since being called up to the majors this season, but there’s no denying his talent level. With a powerful bat and improved defensive skills, he could be a major factor in the team’s 2013 plans.
