The defensive lineman played 13 seasons in the NFL and was named to the All-Pro team three times and was a four-time Pro Bowler. He was the anchor of the Lions’ “Fearsome Foursome”.
While Karras enjoyed a successful career in the NFL, he made an even bigger name for himself after his retirement. He capitalized on his talent and public notoriety to land a role in Mel Brooks‘ Blazing Saddles and later starred in the television hit Webster. The College Football Hall of Famer even went on to write two books.
Karras impacted the lives of many in a variety of ways and was a true renaissance man of the NFL.
