Before introducing John Farrell as the new manager of the Boston Red Sox, Ben Cherington thanked the position’s other candidates. But while they all may have bright futures, Cherington and the Sox knew that Farrell was the guy.
Cherington spoke glowingly of Farrell’s integrity, leadership skills and intelligence, all of which were on display during his time as Boston’s pitching coach before managing in Toronto. Now, Farrell will have an opportunity to bring his expertise back to the playoff-starved city of Boston, where the players in the locker room have already expressed a great deal of respect for their new manager.
Farrell said during his introductory news conference that he wants the Red Sox to be relentless, both during the game and in their preparation. With an aggressive approach, the new skipper thinks a return to glory is on the horizon.
