Rain delays are usually a deterrent for starting pitchers — especially in the playoffs.
Not for Yankees starter CC Sabathia. During the
two-hour, 26-minute rain delay before Sunday's series opener against the
Orioles, Sabathia passed the time by watching the Broncos-Patriots game
while monitoring his fantasy league.
"Told you I'd be watching football. Raiders are off,
but my fantasy team is doing pretty good," Sabathia told TBS' Craig Sager
in the postgame interview.
It certainly kept him at ease. Sabathia logged 8 2/3
innings, yielding two runs and eight hits while striking out seven
batters. Had it not been for a hit in the ninth, Sabathia would've recorded a
complete game.
According to Sports Illustrated, Sabathia's fantasy team
also moved to 5-0 this week.
Ironically, the Yankees ace started Baltimore
Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco — who had a subpar game in a 9-6 victory over
the Chiefs — in his lineup before delivering a gem against the Orioles.
