Dave Wannstedt Has Not Been a Good Defensive Coordinator Lately, And He Should Not Be an English Teacher, EitherBills defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt has been under some heavy criticism recently.

Buffalo gave up 52 points — 45 in the second half — and 580 total yards to the Patriots in Week 4. The Bills followed that up by allowing 45 points and 621 yards to the less offensively talented 49ers last week. On top of that, Buffalo has also spent a ridiculous amount of money trying to shore up its defense, with Mario Williams and others not playing up to expectations.

So now, with Bills coach Chan Gailey likely coaching for his job and Wannstedt needing to prove himself as well, it made sense that Wannstedt was saying encouraging things about his team this week to get his players going.

It was just how he was phrasing those encouraging things that was a bit off the mark.

"I expect us to bounce back this week and play good," Wannstedt told the Buffalo News.

Wannstedt talked some more about how he expected the defense to come through, but his initial assessment was enough to bring a smile (and possibly a good-natured reprimand about the English language), if not bone-crushing tackles.

That's what everyone wants from a football team, right? Playing good?
