Derek Jeter Reveals He Was in Bathroom for Russell Martin’s Ninth-Inning Home Run in Game 1 Against Orioles

While Russell Martin was putting the Yankees on top in the ninth inning of Game 1 of the ALDS on Sunday night against the Orioles, Derek Jeter was tending to other matters.

Jeter, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the Yankees' 7-2 victory, revealed that he missed Martin's go-ahead blast for a rather bizarre reason.

"I was in the bathroom," Jeter said, according to Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan.

Hey, if you've got to go, you've got to go. There's only so much time you have during a game to sneak away and take care of business, and with the game getting down to crunch time, it was probably as good a time as any for Jeter to dart down to the clubhouse. After all, he was due up third in the inning, and who wants to hit with a full bladder?

Jeter ended up singling that inning as the Yankees put up five runs, so it's safe to say everything worked out OK.
