In an industry in which DUI arrests are more rampant than the common cold, Dwight Howard apparently lays off the sauce completely.
Dave McMenamin, who covers the Lakers’ beat for ESPN.com, sent out a tweet Monday that revealed some things he didn’t know about Howard before training camp. Among the interesting facts: Howard wears glasses only because he has terrible eyesight (not for fashion), he shoots free throws with his right hand despite doing everything else left-handed, and he doesn’t drink.
Now many people claim that they don’t drink, only to then have a few adult sodas from time to time, but Howard apparently refrains from booze entirely, as McMenamin shared this little tidbit.
“Dwight has never been drunk in his life. In fact, he’s only had one alcoholic drink in his 26 years: a celebratory shot of CÎROC (P Diddy‘s top-shelf vodka) with his friends when the Lakers trade became official this summer.”
CÎROC, huh? It’s certainly no domestic 12 oz. bottle of suds. What’s most interesting, though, is just how fired up Howard clearly was about the trade to Los Angeles. We’re talking about a guy who went to the NBA Finals in 2009, meaning champagne was there for the taking, yet it took a trade out of Orlando to get his alcoholic juices flowing.
It’s actually pretty ironic, too, as I’m sure there were plenty of Magic fans who hit the bottle pretty hard the night that Howard was traded away. Then again, the big man already gave them a headache, so the hangover couldn’t have been too bad.
The Red Sox could use a shortstop like that.
I felt like the most impactful move I could make to get everybody’s attention was to change the quarterback.
