Homer Bailey had to wait a little longer than expected to deliver his first pitch on Tuesday, as some crazy fan decided to take it upon himself to run onto the field, thus delaying the start of Game 3 between the Reds and Giants.
The fan interrupted the NLDS showdown in Cincinnati by darting onto the field with a sign that said, “Abortion is sin.” The incident did little to distract Bailey, though, as he went on to pitch a 1-2-3 first inning en route to an absolute gem, although the Giants eventually staved off elimination with a 2-1 win in 10 innings.
The disruption was also rather ironic, as Bailey said during his interview session Monday that a streaker was perhaps the only outside interference that could pose a problem.
“I will probably be somewhat oblivious to it,” Bailey said of the raucous home crowd,”unless there’s a streaker running across.”
Well, apparently that fans supports the Reds about as much as he supports abortion.
