Some people are cocky, some people are confident and some people are David Wilson.
The rookie running back believes that, when all is said and done, he will be in the Hall of Fame despite sitting third on the New York Giants depth chart.
“I think at the end of my career, I’ll be in the Hall of Fame,” Wilson told Newsday’s Bob Glauber.
“I know myself, and I know [when] I have guys around me that feel the
same way, which I feel I do. When I get my opportunity, the sky is not
the limit. I think it’s past it. You have to believe in yourself to do
good things. This is how I feel.”
Wilson has carried the ball 15 times for 87 yards and a touchdown through the first six games of his NFL career. A former Virginia Tech star, Wilson was taken with the final pick of the first round back in April’s NFL Draft.
Injuries have moved Wilson up the depth chart with Ahmad Bradshaw missing time with foot issues and Andre Brown sitting out the last two games with a concussion. But if you ask offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, he’s not totally sold on Wilson just yet.
“I’m not even gonna answer that one,” said Gilbride when asked about Wilson’s comments. “He’s progressing in some things, but some things he has a ways to go. He’s got a lot of room for growth.”
At least Gilbride knows he won’t need to help build Wilson’s confidence.
