N.C. State learned a valuable lesson Saturday: Don't punt to Giovani Bernard when the score is tied late in the fourth quarter.
With 30 seconds left in their game against North Carolina and the score tied 35-35, the Wolfpack not-so-wisely chose to punt to the Tarheels' star sophomore running back. Bernard took the punt back 73 yards for a touchdown and the win.
The touchdown was Bernard's second career punt return for a score. He had been tearing through the Wolfpack defense all game, running for 135 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. He also caught eight passes for 95 yards.
The now 6-3 Tarheels needed the win after an embarrassing 33-30 loss to their rivals, Duke, last week. N.C. State is 5-3 after the last-second loss.
