Who said baseball isn't a contact sport?
Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlin learned firsthand Saturday night exactly how painful the game can really be. While on in relief during the 12th inning, Chamberlin was hit by the barrel of Matt Wieter's broken bat. Though he did his best to avoid it, the bat was moving too quickly and struck the right-handed pitcher on his throwing elbow.
Immediately after being hit, Chamberlin shook off his glove and dropped to a knee in pain. After a brief visit from the Yankee trainers, the right-hander left the game, which the Yankees eventually lost.
Chamberlin might have been able to stay in the game, but the 27-year-old pitcher has a history of injuries and the training staff decided that continuing the game was not in his best interest.
