Justin Verlander’s Grandfather Calls Him ‘A Fine Boy,’ Approves of Detroit Pitcher Dating Kate Upton

We're not sure what's better about this story — that a site called Celebuzz talked with Justin Verlander's grandfather to confirm that the Detroit pitcher is indeed dating Sports Illustrated supermodel Kate Upton, or that Celebuzz has Richard Verlander Sr. on the record talking about what a stud his grandson is.

Either way, it's a classic scoop and a cause to smile.

"I heard he has been on dates with a Sports Illustrated girl," Richard Verlander Sr. told Celebuzz. "I saw a photo — she's beautiful. They make a good-looking pair because he's a good-looking man, too.

"I do know he's on the dating scene. Justin is a fine boy, and whoever he ends up with is lucky. He's not only a great baseball player, he's a great guy."

Aw, doesn't that make you just want to break out the Boy Scout patches and reminisce with the elder Verlander about what it was like to play catch with little Justin in the backyard?

It sure is a nicer image than what the male population of America was scheming when they heard Verlander may have taken Upton off the market.
