Report: Santonio Holmes ’99 Percent Likely Out For Season,’ Further Weakening Jets’ Wide Receiver Depth

Fans may be clamoring for Tim Tebow to start at quarterback over Mark Sanchez, but the Jets may need him at wide receiver.

Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports tweeted that Santonio Holmes has a lisfranc injury on his foot and is most likely out for the season.

Matt Schaub had the same injury last November, and he wasn't cleared to start practicing until July.

Holmes led an already weak crop of wide receivers for the Jets. His injury leaves just Chaz Schilens, Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill and Clyde Gates healthy. That group has 1,600 combined career receiving yards.

The Jets already lost cornerback Darrelle Revis for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury and moved running back Joe McKnight over to cornerback to replace him. Unless the Jets make Tebow a full-time wide receiver, they'll need to find Holmes' replacement in free agency. It seems like Terrell Owens may fit their circus-like atmosphere perfectly.
