Red Sox Hire John Farrell as Manager in Multiyear Deal That Will Include Player Swap

Red Sox Hire John Farrell as Manager in Multiyear Deal That Will Include Player SwapThe Red Sox have found their next manager.

Sean McAdam of Comcast Sportsnet first reported that Boston has hired John Farrell. The Red Sox have confirmed the report.

McAdam tweeted that the Red Sox signed Farrell to a multi-year deal and that an official announcement is coming soon.

Farrell has been the Blue Jays manager for the last two seasons, compiling a 154-170 record. Prior to that, he was the Red Sox' pitching coach from 2006-2010.

Farrell will replace Bobby Valentine, who was fired after one season as manager for the Red Sox. Boston will need to send a player to Toronto for compensation, and Farrell's contract and the compensation, including shortstop Mike Aviles possibly heading north, are expected to be announced over the next few days.
