New Red Sox skipper John Farrell will be bringing in one of his own to be Boston's bench coach next season.
According to ESPN.com, Tim Bogar said that he has been informed by the club that his services will not be retained in 2013.
The team announced Friday that former Blue Jays first base coach Torey Lovullo would be the team's next bench coach. Farrell said Thursday in an interview with WEEI that the Red Sox had signed one coach to a contract and were close on another.
Bogar departs after four seasons in Boston. He served as the club's first base coach in 2009, the third base coach from 2010-11, and then as the bench coach under Bobby Valentine last season. The 2012 season didn't exactly go smoothly, though, as Valentine noted during his final days that there were some communication issues between he and his coaching staff. Bogar responded on Wednesday, defending how he and the rest of the coaching staff went about business in 2012.
"The coaching staff was prepared to do everything that we were supposed to do to help Bobby succeed," Bogar said, "but not once did he portray what he wanted us to do to help him and eventually he shut some of us out completely."
Bogar, who said they tried to work through the communication issues, noted that he has needed to defend himself in job interviews now. That's something he may have to continue to do.
