It didn’t take long for Gronk to steal the show on Wednesday.

While Americans watched and tweeted as President Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney took part in the first presidential debate, a third candidate emerged from out of the blue.

Patriots fans suddenly started clamoring for tight end Rob Gronkowski to throw his hat into the race on Wednesday night, sending the Twitterverse into a frenzy. Pats fans began voicing their support, encouraging others to write in Gronk as our nation’s 45th commander-in-chief.

Before long, the hashtag #Gronk2012 was trending on Twitter.

Gronkowski eventually jumped onboard with his supporters, telling teammate Wes Welker that he’s almost convinced to run. In fact, Gronk might even have his running mate lined up, as he exchanged tweets with former New England quarterback and current 98.5 The Sports Hub radio host and Patriots voice Scott Zolak.

Well, Gronk is already a good Patriot, so it makes sense.

Check out Gronk’s tweets below, followed by the support, advice and jokes cracked by many of his followers. Then, keep the ball rolling with the hashtag #Gronk2012.
