Quarterbacks are dropping like flies on Sunday.

First, Michael Vick was ruled out of the Cowboys-Eagles game with a concussion, and now 49ers signal caller Alex Smith has suffered the same injury. Smith was scrambling when he took a vicious blow from Rams’ linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar.

The 49ers tweeted that Smith would not return.

The 49ers could struggle without Smith after building their offense around him. Second-year player Colin Kaepernick has replaced Smith. Kaepernick had played just 50 snaps coming into the game, mostly coming as a wildcat quarterback.
