Ashley Young might have thought he was having a nightmare when he heard one of the scariest-sounding voices in recorded history on the other end of the phone line.

It was no dream. The Manchester United winger was the victim of prank call in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Young was in Turkey ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League game against Galatasaray. He was sound asleep at the United hotel when a Galatasaray fan decided to give him a call and welcome him to Istanbul.

Now, Galatasaray fans don’t welcome English opponents to Istanbul with rose petals and chocolates. They swarm airplanes, buses and hotels with road flares and handwritten signs saying “Welcome to Hell.”

Apparently Young forgot the golden rule of being a famous person who travels around the world. You never check into the hotel under your real name … especially in Istanbul.

At 2 a.m., the fan called the hotel front desk pretending to be Young’s brother “Louis” and, after a bit of back and forth over the spelling of his name, he was put through to the soccer player’s room.

When Young confirmed that it was him on the phone, the fan used the voice. Thankfully, he videotaped the conversation.
