The fear when fans rush the field after a big college win is that the general public will interact negatively with players. While this does not typically occur, unfortunately on Friday, a fan struck a University of Washington player, sending him to the ground.
Sophomore tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, a Mackey Award finalist, was walking off the field when a fan leaped onto the field, sprinted at the tight end and sucker punched him in the face. Â Just before the fan ran at him, Seferian-Jenkins bumped into another fan, though the incidents appear unrelated.
Seferian-Jenkins tweeted about the incident saying, “I prayed for that man that struck me. He must have some issues,” according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, though the Husky has since removed the tweet.
There have been no arrests yet related to the assault, the fan ran from the incident immediately while Seferian-Jenkins was still on the ground. The Huskies tight end was not injured in the incident, he spoke with the media after the game
