As the New York Jets continue to embarrass themselves by losing football games, Jets linebacker Bart Scott continues to embarrass himself by flapping his gums.
The outspoken veteran is back at it once again, this time attacking Jets fans for their attack on Gang Green on Thanksgiving night, particularly letting the club have it at halftime. Fans verbally assaulted the Jets as they headed to the locker room — down 35-3 to the Patriots.
Scott is not happy one bit, and he’s apparently giving up his media boycott for enough time to let the fans have it.
“At the end of the day, if you made it to be able to put an NFL uniform on, then you are one of the best athletes in the world,” Scott told the Daily News. “The person yelling at you probably was picked last in dodge ball all through high school. So do you care about the opinion of them? No.”
After all, the fans don’t know what it’s like to play in the NFL. They don’t know how hard it is for people like Scott to go out and get their doors blown off on Thanksgiving night in front of a national TV audience, getting torched for 49 points — 35 of them coming in the second half — and 475 yards of total offense.
“It comes with the territory,” Scott said of the booing, not getting blown out by the Jets’ divisional rivals while falling to 4-7 and 2-5 at home. “The same people two years ago were cheering, ‘We love you, we love.’ They love you, they hate you. That’s what you sign up for. As long as they don’t put their hands on you, who cares what they say? Because they don’t know that they don’t know. We’re doing something that they couldn’t do.”
As the Daily News points out, it was fans in some of MetLife Stadium’s most expensive seats who were giving it to the Jets at halftime. Mr. Scott, your thoughts?
“No,” Â he said. “Those are the ones who feel more entitled. I would love to go to his job and see what he does and sit in his ear and talk stuff.”
Scott is missing the point somewhere along the line, of course. Think about it for a second. The people who can afford those pricey seats behind the Jets’ bench obviously have money. To have that money, you probably have to be pretty good at your job. That’s how life works. Do a good job, and you get paid.
Unless, of course, you’re like Scott or any other member of the New York Jets. In that case, you’re probably being paid a lot of money to do your job poorly. But at least you weren’t picked last in dodge ball. So you’ve got that going for ya.
