Brandon Marshall Has Heard of Players Using Viagra As On-Field Performance Enhancer

It seems that Adderall isn’t the only strange prescription medication that NFL players are using to boost their on-field performance.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall said he has heard of NFL players using Viagra as a performance enhancer — on the football field of course.

“I’ve heard of some crazy stories. I’ve heard [of] guys using, like Viagra, seriously,” Marshall told Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “Because the blood is supposedly thin, some crazy stuff. So, you know, it’s kind of scary with some of these chemicals that are in some of these things so you have to be careful.”

Marshall did specify that he’s lucky enough not to have to use such PEDs, but it’s not the first time that Viagra has been mentioned in regards to athletics. Viagra doesn’t only increase blood flow, um down there, it increases blood flow throughout the body, according to a 2008 Slate article.

It makes sense that Marshall has heard of athletes using the drug. “By dilating vessels and increasing oxygenation” it can help reduce the effect of the high altitudes in Denver — where Marshall played his first four seasons in the league — according to Slate.
