While the American League Rookie of the Year was won by unanimous vote, the National League honor was much closer.
Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper won the NL Rookie of the Year by just seven points over Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Wade Miley. Harper received 16 first place votes, while Miley received 12.
Harper joins Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim center fielder Mike Trout as the MLB’s rookie award winners, as voted by the BBWAA. Harper had 22 home runs, 59 RBIs and a .270 batting average this season in 139 games. He also had a .817 OPS and 18 stolen bases. Harper was the youngest player in the National League in 2012 at just 19-years-old. He was voted to the 2012 All-Star Game and his 98 runs scored ranked fifth in the NL.
Miley had a 3.33 ERA in his rookie season, with a 16-11 record and 144 strike outs. He was also named to the 2012 All-Star team. Cincinnati Reds third basemen Todd Frazier finished third in voting.
