Drew Brees won a Super Bowl with New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, so he knows a thing or two about how natural disasters can affect people.
On an upcoming episode of the CBS special Person to Person, Brees and his wife, Brittany, will announce that they plan to personally commit $1 million towards Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in the northeast, while their Brees Dream Foundation will also help funnel in about $2 million to the area before the 2013 Super Bowl.
In the special, which is scheduled to air Nov. 23 at 10 p.m. ET, Brees and his family are interviewed by Charlie Rose and Lara Logan — even the couple’s three sons, Baylen, Bowen and Callen, take part. The interview will largely focus on topics off the football field, but Bountygate, for instance, is touched on.
“We want to be able to give back what’s been given to us,” says Brees during the interview of his family’s charitable endeavors.
Another topic that comes up during the interview is Brees’ childhood love of the Red Sox. Not only did he want to be a baseball player growing up, but he idolized Ted Williams. Brees has since accumulated Williams memorabilia, and even wears No. 9 to this day in honor of the former Triple Crown winner.

“We have to find a way to get back to playing [better] because it’s going to be needed leading up to these next weeks. But confidence, naw, I think we’ve always been very confident. Sometimes maybe too confident — borderline cocky a little bit. But our confidence will never be … I don’t think it will ever waver on this team.”
–Justin Tuck explaining how the New York Giants gained confidence by losing two games
Interesting footnote: Shea Hillenbrand was the man that Blue Jays manager John Gibbons challenged to a fight during the 2006 season. Yes, that John Gibbons.
Per Wikipedia, Shea Hillenbrand has “a horse, three miniature horses, 30 tortoises, three rabbits, many lemurs and four schnauzers.”
