Entire Celtics Team Must Be Ready to Handle Ballhandling Duties During Rajon Rondo’s Two-Game Suspension (Video)

BOSTON — The Celtics’ offense will look a little different this weekend. While Rajon Rondo serves his two-game suspension for his role in an altercation with Brooklyn Nets forward Kris Humphries on Wednesday, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said he will look to every available option to fill the hole left by his point guard’s absence.

“Everyone’s got to be the point guard,” Rivers said. “I told everyone, the entire team has to be ready for ballhandling duties. [The suspension] left us in a pretty tough spot, but we should be able to play through this and win, still.”

Once the ball is brought up the court, the Celtics should not have trouble executing their offense, which Rivers said will rely on more motion principles than usual. Getting to that point may be tricky, though. Rondo made it simple for the Celtics to initiate their offense by bringing the ball up the court and making the first pass to activate the sets. Jason Terry, Leandro Barbosa and Courtney Lee have struggled with that aspect.
