Francis Coquelin, Olivier Giroud Give Fans Jerseys, Immediately Take Them Back (Videos)Arsenal fans learned that what Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin giveth, Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin taketh away.

The two Frenchmen threw their game-worn jerseys into the crowd, only to ask for them back because the game wasn't even finished.

The light-hearted moment came after 90 minutes of Arsenal's epic 7-5 victory over Reading in the Capital One Cup.

The Gunners were feeling good, having come back from a four-goal deficit to tie the game in the dying moments of the second half. That's where the confusion started.

Giroud thought the game was over, and there would be a replay to see which team would advance to the fifth round of the competition. But there would be two, 15-minute periods of extra-time to determine the winner, as Giroud learned shortly after tossing his shirt toward the Arsenal fans in attendance.

"I thought that when you draw you restart the game at home," London 24 reports Giroud said. "Someone said that to me so I gave my shirt to the fans.

Luckily, the fans were a little more aware of the rules than the French duo. The recipient returned Giroud's jersey once the Arsenal striker realized what he had done.

"The fans gave me my shirt back so I could carry on. I returned the shirt to them [after the game]. I don't know if the same guy got the shirt though."

Giroud's excuse seems plausible enough. Faulty intelligence can have these sorts of effects. Meanwhile, Coquelin has yet to tell his side of the story.
