Talk about leaving Wilt the Stilt in the rearview mirror.
Jack Taylor, a 5-foot-10 sophomore at Division III Grinnell College in Iowa, decided to blow past Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point NBA record, as well as Clarence “Bevo” Francis‘ 113-point NCAA record, when he dropped 138 points on Tuesday night.
Taylor’s team — you might have expected — emerged from the contest victorious, besting Faith Baptist Bible College 179-104. Now, Taylor is garnering national recognition for his accomplishment, although he might not be totally aware of it.
“I don’t think reality has really set in yet,” Taylor said after the game, according to USA Today. “I think it definitely will in the next few days. I can’t really get my mind around it right now.”
Taylor’s numbers were staggering all the way around. The 170-pound guard shot 52-of-108 overall, including 27-of-71 from 3-point range. It all came in 36 minutes, meaning he averaged a shot every 20 seconds.
A number of NBA players, including Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant responded with amazement upon hearing the news Tuesday night.
“It’s kind of a life-changing moment,” Grinnell coach David Arseneault reportedly said of Taylor’s performance.
Perhaps the most amazing number of the night, though? Zero. That’s the number of assists the young guard registered.
Good luck, John Gibbons. The pressure is suddenly immense up in Toronto.
I never heard of nothing like that. That’s like a video game. How can you shoot 100 times, though?
–Carmelo Anthony, clearly more amazed by the amount of shots taken by Taylor than by the amount of points he scored
Cowboy up.
Jack Taylor you deserve a shot of Jack Daniels after that performance lol…wow
