The Red Sox’ decision to hire Juan Nieves as their new pitching coach caught many by surprise, as Rick Peterson‘s name was constantly floated around in connection with the job. But perhaps we shouldn’t be all that shocked by the move.
NESN’s Tom Caron caught up with The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham to discuss the Nieves hiring, and Abraham pointed to manager John Farrell‘s relationship with Nieves as proof of why he isn’t all that surprised. Abraham also feels the addition should have everyone on the pitching staff on the same page, which is something that has been lacking in recent years.
