Kobe Bryant Wishes Mike Brown the Best on Facebook Before Starting Campaign for Phil Jackson as Next Lakers Coach

Shortly after the news broke that Mike Brown would not be coaching the Los Angeles Lakers anymore, Kobe Bryant appeared deeply disheartened by the announcement.

Bryant posted a message on his Facebook page lamenting the loss of Brown, who coached the Lakers last year and for five games this season before being fired abruptly on Friday.

Bryant’s message appeared heartfelt — and well-received (14.3 million “likes,” anyone?) — but it was also curious considering that many people will not be surprised if Bryant had something to do with Brown being dismissed. Bryant was clearly upset with how the Lakers’ season was going, with defensive struggles, new players adjusting and a new Princeton offense being just some of the concerns that had Bryant looking less than pleased.

The speculation that Bryant had something to do with Brown’s ouster got another boost Friday night, when Bryant voiced support for former coach Phil Jackson retaking the reins in Los Angeles. Bryant said he would like to end his time with Jackson, with whom he has won five NBA titles, on a good note — and with Bryant reportedly retiring within the next couple of years, the two could cap off both of their careers with a couple of titles.

Bryant was playing the good guy Friday afternoon, but by Friday evening, it seems like the star who was signing off as the “black mamba” may have known he needed to do some advanced PR as he got his killer instinct working off the court, too.

Quote of the Day

“I think 60 is a fair amount [of minimum games for an NHL season], but I don’t even want to talk about that, because if they’ve canceled 12 for everyone then that still leaves us at 70.”
