LeSean McCoy Suffers Concussion Late in Fourth Quarter While Andy Reid Was ‘Trying to Win the Game’

The tumultuous football season in Philadelphia got a little more bleak on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 31-6 with just over two minutes left against Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy was hit hard by safety Madieu Williams. McCoy was taken off on a cart and suffered a concussion on the play, according to Michael Fabiano of NFL.com.

But, with Philly down by 25 points and the game all but out of reach, many will ask why McCoy was still out on the field. Reid said he had his two-time 1,000-yard running back on the field in the waning minutes because “we were trying to catch up and win the game,” according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News.

With rookie quarterback Nick Foles filling in for Michael Vick — who is also concussed — for what could be the remainder of the regular season, subtracting McCoy from the offense could lead to a very long conclusion to the season in Philadelphia.

The Eagles are riding a six-game losing streak, and are 3-7 this season. After Sunday’s loss to the Redskins, Philly is in last place in the NFC East.
