Martin Skrtel picked out the positives from the Reds’ goalless draw at Swansea City, providing a defender’s point of view of the stalemate.
A linesman’s flag and the crossbar denied Liverpool three points at the Liberty Stadium, but a fourth clean sheet in seven Barclays Premier League fixtures pleased the Slovakian.
“The main thing if you don’t win the game, don’t lose the game,” said the 27-year-old. “We try to work hard in the defense, try to keep a clean sheet, and as defenders help the team to get the points.”
Brendan Rodgers’ side is now eight games unbeaten in the Premier League, although five of those matches have been drawn.
Skrtel, now approaching 200 appearances for the club, added: “We wanted to win this game because after the game against Wigan we wanted to carry on winning.
“But we knew before the game it was not going to be easy in Swansea and we could see it wasn’t.
“We took the point and remained unbeaten, that’s good, but I think we were feeling we could win and get more than we got.”
With Rodgers preparing for his 25th encounter in charge against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, Skrtel also provided his personal analysis of the manager’s methods.
“It wasn’t easy at the start of the season because all the things changed when the new manager came in,” the No. 37 concluded.
“He wanted to change the style, the way we play — it needs time. The last few games we have started to play the way we want to play and we just need more wins.
“Too many games we have played well, created chances, just couldn’t take them and score. That’s the thing we need to improve and start getting the points.”
