New York Post Fires Shot at Bill ‘Butterball’ Belichick, Blames Patriots Coach for Rob Gronkowski’s Injury (Photo)

It’s still early in the week, but Rex Ryan and the Jets have remained somewhat tight-lipped in advance of Thursday’s Thanksgiving showdown at the Meadowlands. The same can’t be said for the New York media.

In what seems to be a customary move, the New York Post fired a shot Tuesday morning with its back cover. The target: Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

The back page of the Post reads, “Thanks Bill!” — a reference to Belichick’s decision to send Rob Gronkowski onto the field for an extra point attempt late in the Patriots’ win over the Colts on Sunday. The Pro Bowl tight end, of course, broke his forearm, has since undergone surgery and will not be taking the field for New England during Thursday’s divisional clash.

Tuesday’s cover also reads, “Jets lickin’ their chops as butterball Belichick’s brainlock shelves Gronk,” and features an image of Ryan serving up a Belichick-themed turkey dinner.

The paper’s contents continue to salt the wound, with columnist Steve Serby writing about Belichick’s “stupid” decision to leave Gronkowski in the game on Sunday despite New England’s monstrous lead. Apparently, Serby isn’t buying Belichick’s reasoning that Gronk was still in because it remains one of his roles and jobs on the team. In fact, Serby ends his column by stating that Belichick’s decision was a “Turkey move right before Thanksgiving.”

In any event, Tom Brady will have one less weapon to work with while beating the stuffing out of the J-E-T-S on Thursday night. It shouldn’t be much of an issue.

I’m just so proud of him in that moment because the ball that he threw me, it was just one of those balls that you see Tom Brady throw.
