Boston Bruins Celebrate 88th Anniversary of First Game in Franchise History

Boston Bruins Celebrate 88th Anniversary of First Game in Franchise HistoryBoston is a town filled with rich sports history, but one of the most
significant dates is Nov. 1, 1924 — the day the Boston
Bruins played their first game in franchise history.

Boston, which was the first NHL franchise to open for business
in the United States, beat Montreal Maroons in Boston
2-1 in its first game ever. The first game that an American based team had ever won as a member
of the National Hockey League.

Led by head coach Art Ross, the Bruins went 6-24 in
their first season in the league, but eventually turned it around,
becoming one of the most storied franchises in the history of the NHL.

Since their inception in 1924, the Bruins have won six Stanley Cups — including one in 2011
24 division championships and have over 40 representatives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Bruins have called three arenas home: the
Boston Arena, the Boston Garden and currently, the TD Garden.
