The Patriots’ defense was supposed to be much improved this season. So much for that.
While expectations were high due to some key offseason additions — both in free agency and through the draft — and another year of maturation, the Pats’ defense continues to be the team’s Achilles’ heel. In other words, the Patriots are in a position very similar to the one they were in last season, when they had to rely on their offense to bring them to the Super Bowl.
NFL analyst Boomer Esiason dropped by Dennis and Callahan on Monday, a day after the Patriots squeaked out a win over the less-than-impressive Bills. He noted that New England’s defense will continue to be the team’s “million dollar question,” going forward, but also pointed out the unit’s ability to make a play when it counted most at the end of the game.
