If the Zack Greinke sweepstakes comes down to the two L.A. teams as many have speculated, then the talented right-hander could soon don Dodger Blue.
According to CBSSports.com’s Danny Knobler, the Angels are unlikely to sign Greinke despite once being considered the favorites to do so.
A report over the weekend indicated that Greinke could be in line to receive a record-setting deal. Matt Cain inked a six-year, $127.5 million contract extension with the Giants earlier this year, which marked the richest deal for a right-hander in MLB history, but CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman reports that Greinke could net a contract worth up to $150 million.
Knobler reports that the Dodgers have shown strong interest in Greinke, and the Rangers are also believed to be interested in the 2009 AL Cy Young winner.
Greinke went 15-5 with a 3.48 ERA in 34 starts split between the Angels and Brewers in 2012, and he would immediately bring a top-of-the-rotation arm to whichever squad he lands with.
