The Red Sox might have a familiar face as competition for Angels pitcher Dan Haren.
Theo Epstein and the Chicago Cubs are interested in trading for the right-hander, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, and the Angels are in a bit of a time crunch to decide whether or not to move the pitcher.
Haren has a $15.5 million option with a $3.5 million buyout that the Angels need to make a decision on by Friday at midnight. It is expected that the team will deal the starter at some point before that deadline.
The Red Sox are reportedly interested in Haren’s services, but it’s unclear what price they’d be willing to pay for him.
The Angels traded starter Ervin Santana to the Royals on Wednesday, and are now on the clock to move another pitcher with an option looming. Haren went 12-13 with a 4.33 ERA last season for the Angels.
