Report: Dodgers Interested in Kevin Youkilis, Could Reunite Veteran With Ex-Red Sox Teammates

The Dodgers could continue to stock up on former Red Sox players.

FOXSports.com reports that Los Angeles is contemplating signing Kevin Youkilis. If the Dodgers were to ink the 33-year-old, they’d likely shift Hanley Ramirez back to shortstop — his natural position — full time.

When the Red Sox were initially shopping Youkilis in June, the Dodgers were one of the teams that were interested. While Youkilis was dealt to the White Sox, those talks triggered the blockbuster trade in August between Boston and Los Angeles.

After acquiring Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto from the Red Sox, the Dodgers could be poised to add Youkilis and thus add some more Boston flavor. In order to lock up Youkilis, however, the team would have to be willing to convert third baseman Luis Cruz into a utility man.

The Dodgers would also have to send shortstop Dee Gordon back to Triple-A as the odd man out. Gordon was the team’s starting shortstop before the Dodgers traded for Ramirez prior to the trade deadline.

Regardless of Gordon’s fate, Youkilis showed he still has gas left in the tank. The infielder, who can also play first base, played in 122 games last season, and hit 19 home runs with 60 RBIs while batting .235.
