The big-spending Blue Jays aren’t done yet.
Toronto has reportedly signed outfielder Melky Cabrera to a two-year, $16 million deal, snatching up one of the more productive outfielders available on the market.
Cabrera, of course, was having a huge season for the San Francisco Giants in 2012 before testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs and missing the season’s final games. ESPN’s Jim Bowden estimates that because of his suspension, Cabrera cost himself two years and $40 million off of his new contract.
Still, the Blue Jays have added another piece to their increasingly expensive puzzle, continuing their busy offseason. Along with Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson, Cabrera will be another fresh face joining the AL East next year in what is shaping up to be the most competitive division in baseball once again.
