Nick Foles might officially be handed the keys to the Eagles’ offense.
Michael Vick suffered a “pretty significant concussion” during Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys, Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Monday. And according to Yahoo! Sports, the veteran quarterback could be “rested” by Reid and the Eagles’ coaching staff for the remainder of the season.
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Jason Cole, two sources indicated Monday that it’s a pretty strong bet that Vick will miss the remainder of the season, and it’s believed that Reid will use the development of Foles as a springboard to keep his job as Philadelphia’s head coach.
“I’m 99 percent sure that’s exactly what you’re going to see happen,” Cole’s source said. “Andy is going to go to [owner] Jeff [Lurie] and [general manager] Howie [Roseman] and say, ‘Let’s go with Foles and make the transition to the next era.'”
There’s been plenty of speculation regarding Vick and Reid in recent weeks, as the Eagles continue to underachieve this season. It now appears that Vick’s injury has expedited the process of making the full-time switch to Foles, and we’ll see what that means for Reid’s future.
