As if it wasn’t obvious enough that the Lakers want Phil Jackson back at the helm in Los Angeles, it is becoming more and more clear that the 11-time NBA champion is the top choice to return to the bench this season.

Chris Broussard and Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles have reported that Jackson met with Lakers executive vice president Jerry Buss and general manager Mitch Kupchak on Saturday.

The Lakers fired former head coach Mike Brown on Friday, and before Brown could even pack his bags, the speculation already was that Jackson would return.

Broussard and McMenamin said sources told them that the position “is Phil’s job to turn down.” And the former head man has reportedly been in contact with possible assistant coaches if he does in fact make a return to Staples Center.
