Adrian Peterson is in the middle of a historic season. His pursuit of the NFL’s single-season rushing record has been so captivating, in fact, that even some of his fiercest rivals are rooting for him.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings, during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday, talked a little bit about Peterson’s quest to break Eric Dickerson‘s 28-year-old record of 2,105 rushing yards, even admitting he was pulling for the Vikings’ running back.
“I want him to do it,” Jennings said. “It’s impressive to see a player dominate like that. … It’s almost devastating if he gets that close and doesn’t get it.”
Jennings’ comments are a clear show of sportsmanship toward Peterson and just go to prove the sort of respect the talented tailback commands. But the fact is that Peterson has earned such reactions, even from a division rival.
With just two games remaining, Peterson has already run off for 1,812 yards and is less than 300 yards (293 to be exact) away from Dickerson’s coveted mark. What makes Peterson’s feat even more impressive is the fact that less than a full calendar year ago, the four-time All-Pro tore his ACL and MCL.
Peterson may not achieve the historic mark, as he’ll need to average more than 147 yards in each of the final two games in order to capture Dickerson’s elusive record.
