Julian Edelman really started to make an impact before the Patriots placed him on injured reserve with a broken foot. Now, New England is forced to figure out how to replace the wide receiver’s production.
Edelman had come on in recent weeks, showcasing his skills in both the return game and on offense. He had three total touchdowns in the last three weeks, including both a receiving touchdown and a punt return touchdown against the Jets on Thanksgiving.
With Edelman out, Brandon Lloyd will likely see even more snaps on offense. It’s up to him to make them count, as Lloyd has been up and down throughout his first season in New England.
One area in particular where Lloyd will need to improve is in the short passing game. Edelman had been stealing snaps from Lloyd because of his ability to do damage after the catch, and Lloyd will now need to show he’s willing to take a hit.
